Crawl – Walk – Run and How these affect your building a business

We all understand the basic principle of CWR (Learning to Crawl before you can walk, and learning to walk before you can run). So why is it so hard for people that want to start a business to understand? After all, you don’t just wake up one morning and decide that you are going to open a supermarket. There are steps you need to follow to get the store open. These can include hiring someone to do some research to see if a supermarket could even be supported in your community. If you live in a small rural area like I do (combined population of a little over 400 people within a 50 mile radius) the research will probably show me that a huge shopping center would not be a good idea. After all, I would probably need the entire population just to staff up the different positions needed to operate. was designed to help you determine the steps to look at to learn to crawl, then walk and ‘hopefully’ run with your business. By crawling, I am talking about learning the basics of business.

As part of an ongoing project, is creating a complete online business where you the members can follow along and apply the same processes to your own business as we cover each topic in detail. The products themselves may vary, but the basics of building your business should follow the above format fairly close. The information we are providing is working for us and it is exactly the same thing you would get from any of the high-priced marketing ‘experts’ online today. The difference between them and us is we are not out to feed you small peices of the puzzle and charge you more for the next peice. Many marketers use the ‘Carrot and Stick’ market approach. They provide you with a small tidbit of information which by otself will do you little to no good, and then they offer you a ‘more advacned’ course at a higher rate in order make use of what they provided in the first course. And this continues on and on until you either wise up to their antics or get tired of spending all your hard earned money.
Nine times out of ten, it will end up costing you 10’s of thousands of dollars to get ALL the info you need from different sources. Each with it’s own spin on what to do and how to do it. The main problem with this model is the basics are the same for every ‘system’ out there. That is what it means to learn to crawl, learn the basics.

Once you have a solid grasp on the Basics, then you can start to learn how to walk. That means you can expand and perfect the tasks that you learned in the basic steps. Fine tune your promotions, develop long term relationships with your clients and customers and create advertising that increases your sales. You can learn what demographics are and how to put these to best use. How to create ‘segmented’ lists to maximize your marketing returns and how to provide methods for your customers and clients to promote your business for you.

Building a real business that will allow you to walk away from that 9 to 5 rut and become your own boss takes WORK! When you are first starting out, chances are pretty good that you will have more time than money, so make the best of your investment. Time is a precious commodity, and your time is the most finite commodity you have available. You have 24 hours in a day, no more – no less. How you manage and invest your time is what makes the difference. There are going to be areas of your business that you will need to hire (outsource) someone to do that type of work for you. This is all part of business. The owner of the local market doesn’t perform the maintenance on his fleet of delivery trucks, he hires someone to change the tires and check the oil. Learn to delegate, things that you are good at and enjoy doing are fine to keep doing, unless they become a bottleneck for your business. You may enjoy creating the artwork for a new ad you want post online, but if it takes you a week to create it, are you making the best use of your time?

Once you have learned how to walk, then it becomes time to start running. By running, you start to expand your market share, bring in Joint Venture Partners to help you with your next promotion, start adding more websites to your list of domains, maybe even branching out into other areas of interest. Create new products or programs, look at hiring some people to help with the daily tasks. Maybe even get an attorney and\or accountant on retainer to help with the annual tax issues. When you reach this point, your ‘hands-on’ approach to management will gradually change from one of doing everything to managing everything. This is when you have reached the level of success that YOU decided on. You don’t HAVE to build the next Neiman-Marcus to be successful. Only YOU can determine what is success for you! and you can build it exactly how you want and as big (or small) as you want. We just want to help you get there without going broke buying everyone’s ‘snake-oil’ recipe when it is already available for less that the price of buttled water.
